Local Councils in England with an annual turnover of £1m or less must complete an Annual Return which summarises its financial activities at the end of the financial year. The financial year runs from 1 April to 31 March. The Annual Return, which summarises the Council’s payments and receipts, will be externally audited over the summer of 2020 by PKF Littlejohn. Because Council income and expenditure in 2019/20 exceeded £200,000, the Council changed the basis of accounting from ‘Receipts and Payments’ to ‘Income and Expenditure’. As a result, the 2018/19 figures on the Accounting Statement have been restated for Income and Expenditure comparison. The following documents have been submitted for external audit and, until approved, remain draft:
2019_20 Annual Return Governance Statement*
2019_20 Annual Return Accounting Statement*
2019_20 Annual Return Internal Audit report
Confirmation of 2018_19 restated figures
Explanation of 2019_20 variances
When the External Audit has been completed a copy of the audit report will be published together with a formal notice of the conclusion of audit.
From Monday 13 July to Friday 21 August, the public may exercise their right to review the Council’s accounting records. The following notice advises how this right can be exercised. The notice period is later this year in the hope that the Council office will be open to the public. Please see also the summary of your rights regarding the inspection of local authority accounts.
