Neighbourhood Plan

The Long Melford Neighbourhood Plan is a Statutory Document that forms part of the Babergh Local Plan. Work on the Plan started in February 2017 and following a series of consultations, a major survey of local residents in May 2018 and an Independent Examination in May 2022, the Plan and all its supporting documentation went forward to be voted on by residents in a Referendum. the Referendum took place on 27th October 2022. In that Referendum, 95% of voters answered “Yes” to the question: “Do you want Babergh District Council to use the neighbourhood plan for Long Melford to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?” As a result of this clear vote of support, the Neighbourhood Plan was “made” (adopted) and on 31st October it became part of Babergh's statutory Development Plan. This means that Babergh District Council must take into account the policies in the Plan when considering all future planning applications in the Long Melford Neighbourhood Area.
